About

We know local forests

The Forest Partners Program is a collaboration between Registered Professional Foresters (RPF) and Kawartha Land Trust (KLT) — a land conservation charity. Focused in Peterborough and the Kawarthas, we use existing government programs plus collaboration in a community-of-practice to support woodlot owners in caring for their forest.

Kawartha Land Trust is a leading conservation charity. In addition to creating nature reserves our mission is to help landowner participate in good land stewardship.

Registered Professional Foresters have dedicated their lives to promoting healthy, productive forests. They are licensed, regulated experts responsible for the sustainable management, planning, and stewardship of forests in Ontario. Governed by the Professional Foresters Act, 2000, they ensure forest activities meet ethical and technical standards regarding harvesting, conservation, and health.

Meet our Professionals

Environment and Climate Change Canada provided the funding for the 50% subsidy through the nature smart climate solutions fund. This program’s goal includes decreasing carbon emissions of private forests by promoting improved management.

Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry delivers the Managed Forest Tax Incentive Program to over 15,000 private woodlot owners in Ontario.

Meet our Foresters

In our region 8 RPFs are collaborating with KLT to make it easier for landowners to access the managed forest tax incentive program. In addition to completing your management plan and MFTIP application, they are also experts in all forms of sustainable forest management.

By joining the Forest Partners Program, you also gain access to these additional training resources and support options to improve your forestry knowledge and encourage stewardship success.

Forest Coaching

Forest coaching is a 1:1 walk-and-talk in your forest to increase your forest knowledge, give you active management advice, or review a potential management activity. Forest Coaching is done by RPFs, and if you have a plan typically done with the plan author. Not all RPFs offer forest coaching. Forest coaching is typically about $250 for a 4 hour session (may vary). We offer a 50% subsidy if you have a MFTIP already.

Partners in Conservation

Partners in conservation is Kawartha Land Trusts landowner support program. If you are interested in enrolling, we start by learning about your conservation related objectives and what nature is on your property. From there our staff look out for opportunities to help you get the most from nature on your property. This can mean aggregating landowner interest into grants and subsidies for stewardship work, offering simple advice, or organizing participation in conservation and nature education projects. This is a voluntary program and landowners can leave at any time.
